Kenneth Davis Obituary

Kenneth Paul Davis passed away on August 20, 2013 at the age of 73 in the comfort of his home in Wheatland, California. He was the son of Floyd "Joe" Davis and Hazel (Mason) of Crawfordsville, Indiana who preceded him in death. Ken was born on February 11, 1940 in Crawfordsville and graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1959. He married his wife, Sharon (Furr) of Newtown, Indiana on April 24, 1966.

Ken worked for Indiana Bell Telephone, transferred to Olympia, Washington and later to California and retired from the phone company after 33 years.

Ken joined the Indiana National Guard at the age of 17 in Communications. After serving in the National Guard in Indiana, Washington, California, and the California Reserves, he retired with over 47 years of military service.

Ken was an active member of the Wheatland Lions Club. He was also a member of the Wheatland American Legion Post 0789. He was the Commander for the last two years until he had to step down because of his illness.

Ken played the French Horn in his school band and continued to play over the years with the Crawfordsville Civic Band, the American Legion and for the past three years, the Yuba College Orchestra. Ken was an avid reader of westerns, science fiction, and military history and also collected foreign coins, not only for himself, but for his grandchildren.

Ken is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sharon, and their four daughters: Sherry Thomas (Brian); Mary Marks (Shane Griego); Kimberly Scheideman (Tim); and Robin Theis (Robb); five granddaughters and one grandson. He is also survived by his sister Sharon Dexter and brother Everett Davis, Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Ken was an amazing man, devoted husband, loving father, and papa to his grandchildren, Sloane, Loren, Taylor, Jacob, Sydney, and Samantha. In the past year he's also been papa to Michael, Kaytlyn, Molly and Matthew, and a great friend to all. He will be missed by all of us and by the community.

Graveside service will be held at the Wheatland Cemetery at 4865 Wheatland Road on Friday, August 23, 2013, 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the WUHS Music Department, 1010 Wheatland Road, Wheatland, 95692; and the Wheatland Lions Club, PO Box 756, Wheatland, CA 95692.

The family wants to thank the amazing staff at Sutter North Hospice for all their dedication and kindness.

Thank you for your service to your country and as our Commander of American Legion Post 789. Your contribution to our post and the Wheatland community as a "Lion" was outstanding. I will remember you and your family in my prayers.

After years of sitting together at meetings, I will so miss Lion Ken. His quick wit and his giggling at the littlest of things always made for memorable times. He took such pride in providing American flags to Bear River School students and educating our youth on its meaning and glory! He was a hero to many, a patriot to his core, and oh so proud of his family. As fellow Trekkie and band "geek", it was truly my honor to know him!

When I first met Ken and Sharon in1982, I instantly felt welcomed into their home. They made me part of their family. The Davis home was always filled with laughter and fun. And although Ken may have seemed like he didn't like having a bunch of screaming girls around, he was always there to help! Whether it was a ride to the mall or getting the bug ready so we could go to the lake, he was a constant in my life for many years. And although I haven't lived in CA for many years, I still consider Ken (and Sharon) an important part of my extended family. You will be missed, you old fart! I love you.

I will always remember the stories and the "jokes" he always had a good supply of them to share. Uncle Ken was a wonderful husband to my aunt, and they were the model of what a great marriage should be. Love you all!!
