Susano Cortez Jr. (Shorty), 76, passed away on March 5, 2014 in Sacramento, CA. Born July 22, 1937 in Corcoran, CA. He was a Colusa, Yuba/Sutter resident for 58 years.
Susano, also known as Shorty, first came to Colusa county as a kid working with his family seasonally. Later, Susano made Colusa his home and worked for Keeley's Ranch and Brookins Ranch for many years, then to move on to low bed truck driving for Nevis Inc and retired while working for C.R. Jeffries Construction. Driving truck was his forte and worked many hours and traveled across many states hauling heavy equipment.
Survivors include his daughter, Raquel Gonzalez of Sacramento; sons, Richard Cortez of Citrus Heights, Raymond Cortez of Colusa; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Josie Montez of Lakewood, Francis Garza of Tulare; brothers, Ignacio Cortez of Visalia, Anthony Cortez of Corcoran, Angel Cortez of Corcoran.
Preceded in death are his parents, Susano Cortez Sr. and Lucy Garcia; brothers, Frank Cortez and Johnny Cortez.
Viewing at 5:00- 8:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm on March 13 at McNary-Moore Funeral Home, 107 5th Street in Colusa. Funeral Mass at 10:00 am on March 14 at Our Lady of the Lourdes Catholic Church on 4th and Oak in Colusa. Gravesite service follows at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
