Batch, Thomas A.*  
Rev. Thomas A. Batch, who served since 1984 as a priest of the Diocese of Sacramento, died August 24, 2015 in Yuba City. He was 92. Auxiliary Bishop Myron J. Cotta will preside at a funeral Mass on Thursday, September 3 at 10 a.m. in St. Isidore Church, 222 Clark Ave. in Yuba City. Vigil service will be on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 7 p.m. in St. Isidore Church. Burial will follow the Mass and reception on September 3, 2015 at Sutter Cemetery, 7200 Butte Ave. in Sutter. Rev. Batch was ordained on March 17, 1984, in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento by Bishop Francis A. Quinn, after completing studies for the priesthood at St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park. He served as pastor of St. Paul Parish in Knights Landing from 1991 to 1999. He also served as parochial vicar of St. Isidore Parish from 1984 to 1990. He was chaplain at Methodist Hospital, Kaiser Permanente Medical Center and Bruceville Terrace convalescent facility in 1990-91. He retired on September 30, 1999. He was privileged to celebrate Mass with Mother Teresa while he visited Europe and also have Mass with the choir at Castel Gandolfo with Pope John Paul II. He was also a talented professional piano player in his younger years and loved singing and playing the piano. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe, Kenneth and Howard. He is survived by his two half-sisters, Harriet Melchioris and Jean Deller, and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends appreciate all the care which Father Tom received during his final years of life, especially from the staff of River Valley Care Center of Live Oak; Marisa Graham of Interim Health Care, and her staff of Monica, Shanti, Sania, Laura, Tina, Mandy, Matt, Chelsea, Maggie and Austinia, who took care of Father Tom for the last nine months. Thank you also to Andre Howard of Rideout Hospice and his staff of Amy, Terry, Emily, Christina and Joyce, and the excellent care they provided to Father Tom. Baxter Jr., Walter Norwood*  
August 20, 1928 - August 22, 2015 Walter N. Baxter, Jr., age 87, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 22, 2015. A native Californian, Walter was born and raised in the Bay Area and was a graduate of Berkeley High School and the University of California, Davis. Walter was the president of Sunset View Cemetery, in El Cerrito, CA for 40 years and an active member of several organizations in the Bay Area including: Bay Cities Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry 32nd Degree, Aahmes Temple of Shrine and Richmond Elks Lodge #1251. He was an outdoor enthusiast and retired to Colusa, CA in 1989 to pursue his passions; hunting, fishing and sitting next to a warm crackling fire laughing with family and friends. Walter is preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Baxter; parents Walter Norwood Baxter, Sr. and Ethel Graham Baxter and sister June Baxter Hill. He is survived by his second wife, Kimi Kagehiro Baxter; son William Baxter and his wife Cheryl and stepdaughter Brittani Gomez. Basrai, Sawarn Singh*  
Sawarn Singh Basrai 86 years old, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2015 at his home. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and faithful friend. Born in India, he earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from Punjab University before traveling to England with his young family and later venturing to America. He settled in Yuba City and for nearly 60 years was involved in farming. He had a passion for tree crops such as peaches, prunes and walnuts. He also enjoyed attending to his garden which he planted yearly, and welcomed the community to enjoy its many fruits and vegetables. Committed to education, his own and others, he took great pride in educating his children. He had an enduring intellectual curiosity and was a voracious reader, mostly reading about history, politics and current world affairs. He enjoyed international travel, having visited five continents. Sawarn could always be counted on to help those in need, family or stranger. He helped many establish a foothold toward economic and educational advancement. He took pride in his U.S. citizenship and never missed voting in an election. Sawarn follows his wife of 63 years, Naranjan Kaur Basrai, by 7 months. He also leaves four children, Kamala K. Alexander (Ranya), Sarbjit S. Basrai, Iqbal S. Basrai (Cecilia) and Sukhpal K. Basrai. He also has four cherished grandchildren, Daya A. Grant, Gyan Alexander, Miya Basrai and Bella Basrai.
