Albert Sosh

Albert Sosh
April 23, 1924 - April 17, 2014

Albert Sosh, our beloved father, stepfather and grandfather passed away on April 17, 2014, just six days before his 90th birthday.

Born in Mt. Carmel, PA, he was the youngest of three children (including brother, Steve and sister, Irene) to Stephen and Margaret Sosh. He was also the stepson of Mike Walko. All preceding him in death.

Al was a wonderful, gentle and caring man. He loved to hunt, fish and camp. We can still see him putting up that big, old cabin tent by the light of car headlights! But Al's greatest joy was his home, family and church. Even though his job required frequent moves, he and wife Mary always made a welcoming home wherever they went. With amazing patience he taught us all to drive - standard transmission - on hills and in the snow! He was a kind and quiet man with a listening heart; always supportive and loving.

Albert had a long and varied military career. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was deployed in the European Theatre in aviation armament. After the war, Al married Mary Yankoskie, a young war widow with three children. Al's career in the U.S. Air Force and later, in civil service, included a variety of jobs but his most rewarding was as an electronics' technician and computer specialist at radar sites along the "Northern Frontier." In the 1950's, while assigned to ROTC in Bozeman, MT, Al worked part time as a disc jockey at KBMN Radio Station. There he started a teen request show called "Spinner Sactum." With his dark good looks and dimples he was quite the local celebrity "spinning platters" at local sock hops! His last civil service assignment was at the newly built Pave Paws at Beale AFB near Marysville, CA. Finally, in 1981, Al went to work for Ratheon in Tin City, Alaska, Thule, Greenland and Reykjavik, Iceland once again as an electronics technician, computer specialist and instructor. He had many unique experiences and adventures in these isolated places.

Albert Sosh is survived by his daughter, Irene Sosh, of Loma Rica, CA and her daughter, Angela Sosh Olson, who he raised as a daughter. A son, Albert, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV and his daughter April. Three step-children; Joe Yankoskie and wife, Carol of Deer Lodge, MT and their children, Jay, Jan and Leigh. Carol Kimball and husband, Ron, of Great Falls, MT and their children Mike and Mark and Virginia Yankoskie of Portland, OR. His legacy also includes 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 61 years.

The family would like to thank Brenda Abell and family and Sandy and Ashley Jacobean and staff for the love, friendship and care in Albert's final year. You are truly angels. Also, Al's spiritual family; Father Roy Doner and the 10:30 Mass Celebrants at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Oroville, CA. Your welcoming hearts brought joy to us all and comfort to his final days. He is now home in God's loving grace.
