Elizabeth Bennett Naglee

Elizabeth Bennett Naglee, born July 11, 1919 in LeRoy, New York died March 10, 2013 at Foulkeways Retirement Community in Gwenedd, PA. She has been a resident of Foulkeways for 14 years. There she actively participated in the literature groups and later in Hospice as a volunteer. They provided an extraordinary environment encouraging service and spiritual growth which were cornerstones in Elizabeth's life.

Elizabeth attended elementary and high school in LeRoy , New York, and graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelors degree in Sociology. She loved language and spoke Latin, Greek, and French. She met her husband, Joseph C Naglee, while attending Cornell. She taught at the University of Colorado before marrying Joe.

During WWII, Joe was a naval officer and they lived in Pensicola, FL and San Diego, CA settling in Los Altos, CA after the war. Joe's career as a New York Life Insurance agent moved them to Marysville in 1959. They raised their six children on a small ranch in Smartsville, instilling in them a sense of adventure and commitment to numerous 4-H projects. She recorded many of these adventures in her poetry. She was a Board Member at the Yuba County Schools in the 1960's. In addition to the Great Books program, she and Joe were committed to the Twin Cities Rescue Mission in Marysville.

Elizabeth was an involved mother, an active leader and member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marysville, and a Volunteer in Mission at Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, Alaska teaching native Eskimos to read and write. Her sense of humor, spirituality, love of the arts, and compassion will be missed.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1970 and her daughter Karen in November, 2012. She is survived by Bruce Naglee (Nana), Mary Brooker, Barbara Anderson (Ken), Peter Naglee (Debbie), and Brian Naglee (Susan), 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Memorial contributions can be made to the .
