Gilbert Pierce Hawley
September 8, 1920 - December 25, 2012

Passed away on Christmas Day at The Fountains, Yuba City, CA. He was 92. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Gilbert Earl and Winnie Johnson Hawley. Lived most of his life in Mar Vista, California and was a carpenter by trade.

He spent several years in Simi Valley, CA in insurance sales and as a general contractor. He later moved to Biggs, CA, to be a gentleman walnut farmer and custodian for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After retiring he and his wife, Isabelle served a mission to Atlanta, Georgia from 1987- 1988. They spent 7 years in Spanish Fork, UT, before returning to Yuba City the last 11 years of his life.

He married the love of his life, Isabelle Ritchie on April 30, 1941 in the St. George, Utah LDS Temple. 'Pierce' served in the Navy during W.W.II as an Aviation Metalsmith.

Pierce was a valiant, faithful servant in The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a beloved friend to many and was known as a jokester who loved a good laugh. He was master to many a "good dog."

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Isabelle; son, Dennis Hawley (Sharon) of MN; daughters, Marylee Hammerstrom (Tom) of UT, and Laurel Stubblefield (Lewis) of Yuba City; sister, LoRene Steimle; 24 grandchildren, 50+ great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Marylynn Hawley; son, Steven Hawley; sisters, Evva Sorenson and Donna Sansome, Hazel Mason, Vera Herbert; Great Granddaughter, Gianna Lyon.

He will be missed, but his life continues as his eternal spirit discovers the joy and work in his Heavenly Home on high.

Services will be conducted Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Yuba City Stake Center with Bishop Michael Davis conducting. Burial will follow at Sutter Cemetery.
