Helen Mary Holway of Browns Valley, CA, passed away February 12, 2013. She was 73.
Helen was a native of CA, born on October 08, 1939, to the late Frank Alfred Gadow and Sadie Louise Gadow of San Leandro. She was 2nd of 3 children.
Survivor to four sons: Steven Wheeler of Fremont, CA, Shannon Houtrouw of Michigan, Flynn Holway and Shaughn Houtrouw both of Las Vegas, NV; three daughters: Kathy Petersen of Browns Valley, Kelly Acrie of Las Vegas, NV and Casey Houtrouw of Washington; Two Brothers: Frank Gadow of San Ramon, CA and John Gadow of St. John's, AZ; Twenty Grand Children and Eight Great-Grand Children.
She was preceded in death by Husband Canon Wheeler, Father Frank Alfred Gadow, Husband Bruce Alexander Holway, Mother Sadie Louise Gadow, and Son Richard Alan Wheeler.
Loving Wife of 28 years to the late Bruce Alexander Holway - Married 07/23/72.
Helen was raised in San Leandro, CA. In 1953, Married Canon Wheeler moving to Hayward and lovingly raised her 3 children as they battled many years together with Canon's Multiple Sclerosis.
Being the tender woman she was, she fell in Love with Bruce and married in 1972. After raising their combined family of 8 children, they ran a Restaurant/ Bar in Fremont for a few years. In 1979 they opened the Delta Owl Tavern in Holt, CA where they worked side by side for 19 years.
Helen loved people and they loved her. In 1998, they retired at their sanctuary overlooking Collins Lake in Browns Valley, CA. Helen stood by Bruce's side during his battle with Esophagus Cancer until Nov 2000. She was the best nurse he ever had.
In 2005, she herself was diagnosed with breast cancer
, fought it and was proudly an *8* year SURVIVOR. After battling with a heart attack in July 2011, stroke in Dec 2012 and Brain Tumor in Jan 2013, Our Lord gave her Peace and called her home.
Helen was a very strong, kind, loving woman to everyone and everything she touched. She always enjoyed her family gatherings and activities, especially BBQ's, gardening, shopping and an occasional trip with her friends to Reno/Tahoe.
A Loving Mother, Sister, Grandma, Great- Grandma, Aunt and Friend, she will be deeply missed by all, as she touched the lives of many and had an impact on each one. May she rest in peace and continue to show her loving ways through those she left behind.
