Imelda R. (Melba) Blevins


Imelda R. Blevins, 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Marysville on April 17, 2013. Melba was born in Falfurrias, Texas on August 13, 1925 to Theresa (Mora) and Enrique Ramirez.

She moved to Marysville, CA in 1949 with her then husband Howard F. Little, Sr. and their sons, Howard and Jack. In 1956 she married John Uriola of Marysville. They had two daughters, Maria Dolores and Anna Lisa.

Melba started her career as a waitress in 1950. Her first job in the area was at the Brunswick in Marysville. She enjoyed her work and her customers. Melba was known for her "jokes" throughout the area. Many customers would come to where she was working daily to hear her newest joke.

She worked as a waitress for 53 years before retiring after the passing of her husband, Jack Blevins. Melba also worked at the Orchard Club in Marysville in the 1950's and early 60's, as well as the lunch counter at Woolworth. She also worked at Hy's Olympic Hotel, Linda Lunch and the Bonanza among a few other local restaurants. She retired from the Peach Tree restaurant at the age of 77.

Melba volunteered for the Pink Trunk and the Pink Ladies.

She loved to sing and go dancing and enjoyed a good night out! While in Texas, Melba performed as a singer with a local band Beto Villa. Her last performance was in Falfurrias, Texas at her 50th class reunion.

Melba was married 8 times. She would often talk and laugh about each with loving thoughts and stories. They each had a special place in her heart. They were Howard Little, Sr., John Uriola, Tommy Conley, Pete Wasilchen, Roy Landerman, Art Stone (2) and the love of her life, Jack Blevins, former Chief of Police of Marysville and mayor whom she was married to for over 20 years before his passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Henry Ramirez of Falfurrias, TX.

She is survived by her loving children: sons, Howard F. Little (Laurie) of Sutter, Jack Little (Teri) of Roseville, daughters, Maria Wright (Will) of Marysville and Lisa Uriola of Atlanta, Georgia. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Howie Little, Dan Little (Bree) of Marysville, Rex Kenney of Los Angeles, DJ Smith of Tacoma, WA, Ginger Cuevas of Marysville, Amanda Little of Knoxville, Tennessee, Jessica Little of Clearwater, Florida. Great grandchildren. Trent, Andrea and Hudson Little, Ty Little, Isayah Pendrak, Felix Guzman of Marysville, Dylan Smith of Tacoma and Kaya Pippin of Pleasanton, CA and Nadia Little of Clearwater, Florida. She also leaves behind her dear friend of 50 years, Nadine Hopper of Marysville.

Mom, you were a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother and friend. You lived life to its fullest and taught each of us to laugh and enjoy life! Rest in peace. You will be missed by many!

Services will be on Wednesday, April 24, at 6:00 p.m. at Holycross Memorial Services, 486 Bridge St., YC, 95991. Arrangements are under the direction of Holycross Memorial Svcs.
