Irene Largent Weinreich passed away on July 4, 2014, at home. Her loving husband of 72 years, Verner Weinreich, was at her side. Her health had been failing for the past several years.
Irene was born on December 25, 1922 in Los Angeles, California, to parents Lucille and Alex Largent. Her family moved to Indian Falls, California, and later lived in Greenville, where she graduated from Greenville High School in 1943. She met the love of her life while in high school and they were very happily married for 72 years.
Following Verner's time in the US Army during World War II, Irene and Verner lived in Sacramento, Chico, Corning, Quincy and Greenville. While in Greenville she was an office manager for Cheney Lumber Company and then worked for the US Forest Service in Plumas County. After moving to Yuba City in 1977, Irene was a member of the Peach Tree Lane Church of Christ and was also the church secretary. Her family and faith were very important to her and she was an active member of the Peach Tree Church until her illness prevented her involvement.
Irene was pre-deceased by her daughter Claudia Weinreich Blake, her mother Lucille Furtwangler and stepfather Frank Furtwangler, sisters Helen Largent Prideaux and Thelma Largent Winter and a brother Alex Largent. Besides a loving husband, Irene leaves son-in-law Tom Blake, a grandson John Blake and his brothers Tom and Brian Blake, in addition to many nieces and nephews who dearly loved her.
She always remembered everyone's birthday and sent birthday as well as other greeting cards to all members of the family and to many friends. She was an excellent seamstress and crocheted beautiful baby sets whenever a new family member was born.
Irene was a very loving person whose family and faith were very important to her.
Memorial graveside service to be held Friday July 11, 2014 at 9:00 am at Glen Oaks Cemetery, 11115 Midway, Chico. A reception will follow at Irene's church, Peach Tree Lane Church of Christ, 1321 Peach Tree Lane, Yuba City, at approximately 11:30 am.
Memorial contributions in her memory may go to the Peach Tree Lane Church of Christ.
