Joseph John DeValentine

Joseph John DeValentine, 90 of Rio Oso, CA passed away February 14, 2014 at his residence. Born August 13, 1923 in Elk Grove, CA, he was a lifetime resident of the Yuba Sutter area.

Joseph served in the U.S. Army. After World War II, he returned to farm in the Yuba Sutter counties, raising various crops. He farmed for 70 years. During his lifetime, he served and was a member of various organizations and boards, including Federal Land Bank, East Nicolaus High School, Swiss Sports Club, Wheatland American Legion, Knights of Columbus; St. Boniface Church, and various other agricultural organizations. He was a lifetime member and supporter of the Rio Oso and Nicolaus Communities.

Survivors include his wife, Susana DeValentine, of Rio Oso, CA; sons, Steven DeValentine (Sandra) and Robert Bruce DeValentine (Martha), both of Rio Oso, CA; sisters, Clara May Nelson, Rio Oso, CA and Elsie Louise Petersen of Sacramento, CA.

Joseph was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline and his second wife Juanita and a sister, Marie Setich.

A Visitation will be at 2:00PM on Thursday, February 20, 2014 until the Rosary, which will be at 7:00 PM, also on Thursday, February 20, at the Lipp and Sullivan Chapel, Marysville, CA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, February 21, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Nicolaus, with Father Eric Lofgren, officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Rio Oso, CA.
