Kathryn Louise Lauppe

88, of Nicolaus passed away February 17, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 9, 1925 to her parents Fredric Paul & Stella Louise Simon Hart in Torrance, CA. Kathryn was one of the first babies born in the new Torrance Hospital.

Kathryn attended grammar school in a three-room school house in Montague, CA. Her family moved to the Sacramento area in 1938 where she attended Kit Carson Junior High and McClatchy High School. She went on to attend Sacramento Junior College and received her Bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

Returning to Sacramento after college, she was employed by Swett & Crawford Insurance Agency and later as secretary to the editor, Walter Jones at the Sacramento Bee. On a blind date, she met a very handsome farmer, Burton H. Lauppe, and became a farm wife, raising three children in south Sutter County.

Among many of her accomplishments, she was PTA president and Board Member for Marcum Illinois Elementary school in East Nicolaus. She was also involved with the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and active with the Order of the Eastern Star. Kathryn was very proud to help start the South Sutter Connection, the community's paper, writing many articles.

Kay and Burton traveled throughout California visiting with friends. They had many adventures in their motor home traveling throughout the United States. Their travels also took them to Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

Kathryn Lauppe loved supporting her husband on their farm and raising their family in the Nicolaus community. She loved the piano, playing bridge with several bridge groups, her Masonic family, attending grandchildren's activities and meeting others on their many travels. She will be dearly missed by those who knew her gentle smile and laughter.

Kathryn is survived by her husband of 63 years Burton Harold Lauppe, children Alan (Debbie) Lauppe of Roseville, Joan (Doug) Johnson of Granite Bay and Warren (Cynthia) Lauppe of Merced. 8 grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren, and brother Paul (Debi) Hart of Woodland.

Visitation will be Friday, February 21, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond Street, Yuba City. Memorial services will be Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Fairview Community Christian Church 1991 Pacific Ave., Trowbridge, CA.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Kathryn's name to the Fairview Community Christian Church, 1991 Pacific Ave., Trowbridge, CA 95659, or to the Sutter North Hospice, 400 Plumas Blvd, Ste. 115, Yuba City, CA 95991.
