Leonard Clinton Berry Sr.

Leonard passed away at his ranch in Live Oak on Monday, October 29, 2012. He was 88 years of age and lived his entire life in Live Oak. He was born on the same ranch on September 22, 1924.

Leonard graduated from Live Oak High School and entered the Army after graduation. He served with the 13th Airborne in World War II as a paratrooper. He was an electrician and farmer for many years. He married his grade school sweetheart, Annamae Nesmith, and they were married for over sixty years prior to her death on July 1, 2007. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his four children and their families. Leonard Berry Jr. of Portland, TN, Craig Berry of Live Oak, Judy Ewald of Haines, Alaska and Scott Berry of Grass Valley, CA. He had five grandchildren, Joe, Tommie, David, Melissa, Michael, and three great grandchildren, Hunter, Schyler and Declan.

Leonard loved to host the family reunions at his ranch which he did every May for over 40 years. Family was very important to him and he always made it a priority to support his children and grandchildren at any event they were involved in. He may sometimes show up coming straight from a work site but he was always there.

Leonard was very involved in the community of Live Oak and loved his time of over 55 years with the Live Oak Lions Club where he helped in many community projects including the Annual Easter Egg Hunt, the Live Oak Fall Festival and the Annual Food Basket Program at Christmas. His devotion to serve his family, the community and anyone in need was always a priority for him. He helped start the Live Oak Little League in the 50's, was a Boy Scout Leader, a past member of the Live Oak Union School Board and served on many other community committees. He was honored by the City of Live Oak as Citizen of the Year, recognized by the Live Oak High School as an outstanding alumni "Best of the Best", and received a proclamation from the State Legislature recognizing his commitment and service to the community of Live Oak.
