Lois O. Coleman

Lois O. Coleman
Lois O. Coleman lost her battle with cancer on December 21st, 2012 at the age of 78. She was the only child for Walter and Bonita Carlson born in the lumber town of Westwood, California. She spent most of her childhood in the town of Hammonton.

She earned her teaching credential and taught at Park Avenue Elementary School until she took time off to focus on a family. As her family grew up she returned to teaching as a substitute teacher throughout Sutter and Yuba Counties. She was also a GATE teacher and a reading/speech specialist. She loved being in the classroom and enjoyed being at a variety of campuses and meeting all the students.

Lois was also a very giving and caring person and always looked in on sick or elderly friends and family members. She also volunteered for an adult literacy program. Of course being a mom she also was always driving kids around, helping at PTA events and watching sporting events.

She will be deeply missed by her surviving daughter Lisa, surviving son Spencer, his wife Danielle and two granddaughters Deavon and Kayla Coleman. She was preceded in death by her first born son Ray. She left a strong impression on the local teaching community and all of the students she taught over her long career.

Being a private person, she did not want any services. She would want to be remembered as a Mom, a teacher and a caregiver who enjoyed serving others. In lieu of flowers the family suggests small donations to local charities such as Barry School Library or a school PTA/library of your choice.
