Nathan James Betterson Sr.


Nathan James Betterson Sr. was born August 3, 1931, in Lyons, GA. A resident of the Yuba-Sutter area for over 36 years, he passed away peacefully on March 14, 2014.

Chief Master Sergeant Betterson retired from the United States Air Force in 1981. He then went on to become the Director of Animal Control for Yuba County and retired in 1994.

Nate was a lifetime member of the Peach Bowl Lions Club, an avid fisherman, and a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He is preceded in death by his father Edward "Garner" Betterson, mother Julia Betterson, daughter Michelle Julia Betterson, aunts, uncles, and 8 sisters and brothers.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years Frances Betterson of Yuba City, son Nathan Betterson Jr of Yuba City, daughter Janet Betterson of Sacramento, grand-children Ashley Georgia Rose Stevenson of Sacramento and Rafael Nathaniel Johnson of Yuba City, sister Valerie Gilbert of Jacksonville, FL, sister-in-laws Bernestine Betterson of Atlanta, GA, Ianthe Pearman of St. George's, Bermuda, Edith Miasner of Warner Robbins, GA, Aileen Pearman of St. George's, Bermuda, brother- in-laws Edric Pearman and Percy Pearman of St. George's Bermuda and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11 am at Bethel AME Church, 115 5th St., Marysville, CA on Friday, March 21, 2014. Public viewing begins at 10 a.m. Following the memorial service internment will be at Sutter Cemetery, Sutter, CA.

Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the MS Foundation.
