In the early evening hours of March 8, 2014, after a short battle with cancer, Patricia Gale Ione Rister went to walk in heaven with loved ones who passed before her and to create a loving place for those of us who will follow. Though we grieve now, we know we will see her again one day.
Born April 2, 1936 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Norval and Artha Warner, she moved to California at age 10. She soon gained a step-father, Erwin Bentley "Ben" Jones, and the family settled in the Tierra Buena area. She attended Tierra Buena Elementary and Yuba City High School. In later years, she returned to Yuba College to get a nursing license and still later to finish her associates degree. She worked as a nurse at Rideout Hospital in the early 70's and at Valley Oaks Convalescent in later decades. She took a break from nursing in the middle of her career to work as a plumbing contractor and was proud to be a female in a largely male dominated occupation.
Pat loved the outdoors. She loved camping and was an avid hunter. She held many awards for her prowess with a re-curve bow, including a northern California Women's championship trophy. She also took great pride in providing for her family-and nearly everyone was family. Pat would can or freeze anything she could and share with anyone in need.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Carole; granddaughter, Aimeé; great grandson, Ian; and sons, Elvin and Edward.
She leaves behind husband, Gerald; daughters, Artha Kuklok (Mark) of North Dakota; Sandra Cochran of Olivehurst; and Peggy (Amos Gates Jr) of Yuba City; son, Clair of Marysville; brother, Dale Warner (Kathy) of Olivehurst; son of her heart Ed Largé (Dawn) of Oregon; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
Her life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 15 at 1:00 at Chapel of the Twin Cities, 715 Shasta Street, Yuba City, with a reception to follow at the American Legion Post 807, 5477 Feather River Blvd, Linda.
