Richard (Stoney) Stone

Richard (Stoney) Stone passed away March 31, 2013 at his home. He was born in Tarrytown, New York October 17, 1937 to Elizabeth and Earl Stone. All his life he never met a stranger, he was quick with a smile, a story and a warm laugh.

Richard was always hard working, after graduating from High School he began his 20 year career in the US Air Force. Initially he worked on the left wing of his beloved B52 at Hannover Air Force base. Then in 1965 he was transferred to Beale. He rose quickly serving in Viet Nam, and as a KC 135 Crew Chief and as a Master Sergeant. Richard loved his B-52's and KC 135's and threatened his family that he would like a B 52 nose cone, set in the front yard as a kind of memorial to the great plane.

Once Richard retired from the Air Force he picked up a new vocation, he became the "friendly mortician" of the Marysville/Yuba City area. He worked at first for Hutchison & Carnes and Sierra View Mortuary and later at Ullrey's Memorial Chapel. Richard loved his work, comforting people in loss, and being technically very adept at preparing his clients for their final viewing by their loved ones.

He was a very patriotic man. Richard loved community service. He was a Linda Lion awarded "Lion of the Year in 2009-10"; member of Red Cross and Chairman of the Board of Red Cross 1991-1992 and he was active in the VFW, Yuba City Moose Club and a Chairman of many Linda Unflood Dances and Chili Cook Off's. He was a good friend of Bill W. Richard had a beautiful voice and sang for over 20 years in the St. Joseph's choir.

Richard loved his 4 legged canine family members. A good face washing and/or slobbery kiss from his Saint Bernard always would brighten his day. He had many "kids", dogs and cats, through the years who brought him hours of entertainment and unconditional love.

In 1990 Richard met a beautiful women Hazel, (who loved hounds too!). Richards daughters Susie and Leila joined Hazel's three lovely daughters Samantha, Stephanie and Sundae when Hazel and Richard married in 1991. As the years passed Richard became the father to 5 daughters and 4 son in laws and 14 grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his son Ricky in 1971. He is survived by his siblings Margie, Nancy and Bill. Together Richard and Hazel lived a life that centered around service, work, their children, and dogs.

Graveside memorial service will be conducted Friday, April 12, 2013 at 1:00pm at Sierra View Memorial Park with Pastor Wayne Vincent, officiating. Military honor, Beale AFB Honor Guard and Linda Lion's tribute. Arrangements are under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel.
