Jesse Turner Obituary

Jesse Rodney Turner Jesse Rodney Turner, 90, died unexpectedly September 21, 2010 at the Fountains in Yuba City, from complications of a stroke. He was born October 27, 1919, in McPherson, Arkansas, the son of Robert Turner and Minnie Harris. He married Virginia Cook in 1939. They just celebrated 71 wonderful years. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; son Greg Turner (Patti) of Sacramento; daughter Pamela Trost (Don) of Oakton, Virginia. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jacqui Schinnerer (Justin), David Trost (Christin), and great grandchildren, Felicity, Devin, and Giselle. He was preceded in death by his six brothers and sisters. Jesse was a World War II Army veteran serving as a machine gunner with the First Infantry Division. He was discharged with a service related disability but never let it interfere with him being a good parent and provider. He was a current member of the VFW. After the war, he moved his family from Arkansas to Sutter, California where he started working for Frank R. Close Lumber yard as a labor/truck driver. Within a few years, he became the supervisor. For almost 38 years, he was known by most area contractors as someone that would calculate and deliver building material requirements accurately and timely. He has been retired for 26 years. As a youth, Jesse had to drop out of school to help work on the farm in Arkansas. However, he was self taught, intuitive, and always kept up with current events. Education was important to him, and he made sure his children went to college. He enjoyed playing the guitar, the harmonica, gardening, and fishing. In the 1950's he once held a record for the largest sturgeon caught in the Grimes area of the Sacramento River. Jesse was also a sports fan of the San Francisco 49'ers and Oakland Raiders. In recent years, he enjoyed working and learning on his computer. He was researching his family genealogy and had discovered most of his ancestors were here before the Revolutionary War. Family tradition claims he was a descendent of the Great Shawnee Indian Chief Cornstalk of the 1760's. Jesse was proud of his Ozark Arkansas birthright and after 60 years in California, had not given up his southern drawl. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 22, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond Street, Yuba City. Graveside services will be Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 12:00 PM at Sutter Cemetery in Sutter. Reverend Bob Cordier of the Marysville 1ST Presbyterian Church will be officiating. Remembrances in his honor are welcome to a charity of your choice. Send Condolences to www.appealdemocrat.com
