Mason Oakes Obituary

Mason Oakes, of Yuba City, California, passed away on November 19, 2017, at the tender age of 20. He left this earth along with his cousin and best friend, Ryan Jensen, age 18. They were the victims of an auto accident caused by a drunk driver.

Born May 3, 1997, in Yuba City, CA, to Scott and Jessica Oakes, Mason attended Butte Vista and West Walton Elementary Schools and Yuba City High School before moving to Utah where he graduated from Springville High School.

After moving back to Yuba City, Mason served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He had been home from his mission for only two weeks. He came home happy and ready for the life ahead of him. He had plans to begin training soon to become a helicopter pilot.

Mason had an infectious personality, and a special love for children. He loved wakeboarding, mountain biking, snowboarding, hunting and shooting sports. Most importantly, he was kindhearted and always willing to serve and help others.

Mason and Ryan were inseparable. Together they shared a love of life, family, spontaneous wrestling matches and all things motocross. They were best friends in life and companions in death.

Mason is survived by his parents, Scott and Jessica of Yuba City; his sister, Claire; and brothers, Ethan and Samuel. He is also survived and cherished by his great-grandmother Zoella Jensen of Corona; grandparents, Jeanette Oakes of Salt Lake City; and Bob and Marie Jensen of Yuba City; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mason will be remembered as a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, a loving sibling and loyal friend.

Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1470 Butte House Road, Yuba City, CA, on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at 10:30 am.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Ullrey Memorial Chapel, (530) 673-9542. Interment will follow in Sutter Cemetery.

Scott, Jessica, and Family: Please accept our most sincere condolences for your tragic loss and all of our love for Mason and your family. It was such an honor and blessing to get to know Mason and your family while you lived in Utah. What an extraordinary young man who did so much good and brought light and hope to all he encountered. May you be comforted by our Savior's love and by the knowledge that Mason is again on a mission for our Heavenly Father to bless and uplift His children. Love now and always! Mason was such a special young man. I enjoyed working with him at Scout Camp. My oldest son spoke so highly of him. He wishes he could be here now to say his goodbyes as well. Mason's mission here on Earth May be over, but it is certainly continuing in Heaven where for unknown reasons to us, the Lord needed him more. I will forever be thankful for the time I knew him. Thank you for sharing your son with others. My prayers are with your family at this time and always.
