Albert DeSantis Obituary

Albert DeSantis 88, of Browns Valley, passed away March 6, 2017. He was born in Sacramento on, July 21, 1928, to Giovanni and Mary Sofia DeSantis. He was a first generation Italian to be raised in the United States, something his father was very proud of. He always told him, in America you can be anything you want.

As a teenager, he went to work for Southern Pacific Railroad for 14 years. After the railroad, he was a Diesel Mechanic for a trucking company. He then became the Plant Operator for Arden Sand and Gravel. He had rental properties and owner of the Englewood Club, a bar in Sacramento, for over 25 years.

In 1969, he moved to this area when he bought a house on some property, along the Yuba River. He then went to work for Baldwin Construction's rock plant in, Hallwood. He worked there until he retired in, 1983.

Albert was a Cattle Rancher most of his life, and had rental properties in Roseville, CA. He was also Owner and President of, Yuba Recreation, Inc, a hunting and fishing club along the Yuba River.

Albert grew up in the Sacramento area. He and his father had numerous hound dogs and a passion for hunting (especially bear hunting). He loved to water ski. After his retirement and watching his nephew barefoot ski, he decided he would try it. He had not skied for years. He got out there in his Levi's and hat, and did some Barefoot Water Skiing.

He also loved deep sea fishing. For over 30 years, him, his 5th wheel, and boat would set up residence and spend the summer at a campground in Albion. Various friends and family would take turns going up there fishing and socializing with him. He would come home periodically to bring a freezer full of fish home, and get some fruit from the Wurm Family Farm. Back to Albion he'd go, and give fruit and vegetables to everyone in the campground. It was a fair trade, someone was always inviting him to their camp for dinner.

Albert is survived by his wife and love of his life for 53 years, Ruth DeSantis, sisters Violet McCormick of Rocklin, & Barbara DeLarra of Sacramento, Son Rick DeSantis, daughters Karen Jenkins of the Sacramento area, Teri DeSantis (Rick) of Yuba City, and stepdaughter Rhonda McClellan (Tully) of Kerman. Granddaughter Martena Gardea (Alex), Great Granddaughter Desirae Gardea, Great Grandson Noe Gardea, all of Salinas, Christina Jenkins, and Grandson Tony DeSantis .

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Leo DeSantis, sister Irene DeSantis, two grandsons, Earl DeSantis, and Tully McClellan II.
