Anne Teresa Crall
Anne Teresa Crall, 87, of Yuba City, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2016. Anne was born on October 15, 1928, to James and May Murray in County Galway, Ireland.

Anne lived in Ireland until immigrating to New York City at 6 years of age. Her father worked for the Con Edison Company in New York for thirty years and was the last surviving member who served in the original Irish Republican Army during the Easter Rising of April 1916.

Anne loved learning and valued education. She was an avid reader who was always at the top of her class. In addition to helping care for five younger siblings, she worked several jobs starting at the age of 14 years. Anne graduated from St. Patrick's Cathedral High School in NYC. She attended Hunter College in New York before joining the United States Navy in 1949 as a WAVE. While serving in the Navy she met her husband Ernie.

After her service in the Navy, Anne and Ernie graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson. They moved to the local community where Anne began her career as a school teacher. Her first teaching job was in 1957 at Gray Avenue School. She later taught at Notre Dame Catholic School before taking a leave to start a family. Anne returned to teaching in 1972 taking a position at Brittan School in Sutter where she worked until she retired in 1993.

During her career Anne had the honor of being selected Mentor Teacher and developed a writing curriculum for grades K-8. Before retiring she was awarded Teacher of the Year. Anne continued teaching in the Sutter County Literacy Program receiving a congressional commendation in 2014 for 20 years of service. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a society of women educators, serving as president from 1996-98. Anne loved traveling with family and friends taking many cruises to Latin American and Europe.

Anne is survived by her son Barry Crall (Laurie) of Woodbridge, CA and daughters Robin Mitchell (David) of Corona, CA, and Debra Givens (Jim) of Yuba City, CA. She is survived by her grandchildren, Sean and Tara Mitchell, Maura and Summer Givens, William Keef, and siblings Patrick Murray of Killimor, Ireland, Tom Murray of New York City, New York, and Mary Carrier of Newburyport, Massachusetts.

Anne is preceded in death by her parents, siblings James J. Murray and John Murray and her husband of 63 years, Ernie Crall.

A Rosary is planned for Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 6 pm at Ullrey Memorial Chapel and a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Isidore Catholic Church on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 11 am. Visitation will be at Ullrey Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 5 pm to the Rosary.
