Arden D. Houser Jr. Obituary

Arden Houser Jr., 82, resident of Pahrump, NV, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2014. Arden was born October 9, 1931 in Modesto, California to Eunice (nee Martin) and Arden D. Houser, Sr. Arden joined the U.S. Navy upon graduation from High School in 1950. Following boot camp, Arden was stationed in Pensacola, Florida for a three month Photographer's Mate School. Arden was stationed on Guam, filming the Korean War, also stationed in the Phillippines, Hawaii, and finally in San Diego, CA, where he met and married Charlott. They had four children. He was very proud of his service.

Arden was proud to be a fourth generation California native and third generation State of California Cal Trans (Highways) employee. He started in the Reproduction Department as a supervisor of Photography, coping, printing, mapping. While working at Cal Trans he met and married Pat. There were many promotions and moves in store for them. Arden reired at 59 after 35 years, and was presented the Lifetime Safety Award in 1990, for the State of California by then Governor George Deukmejian. The original hangs in the California State Capitol in Sacramento.

Arden had a zest for life. After retirement Arden and Pat spent 15 years full time RVing. They did so many fun things together, campground hosting and working for the Escapees RV Club. Finally it was time to retire to Arden's dream, living full time in Pahrump. Arden loved living in the wide open spaces, the reverse sunsets, and sitting on the deck feeding the bunnies, watching the coyotes cross the back of the land, and eagles flying overhead. Arden worked hard to turn the desert into a home until his health began to fail.

Arden is survived by wife Pat; daughters Robin Burgett and Vicki Reeder, and son Dennis Houser (Georgia). He is also survived by his sister Ann Smart (Bill); 16 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by brother Bob (Joni), also by oldest son John Arden Houser.

A Memorial is planned for June 28, 2014 at the Agape Lighthouse Community Church, 2106 Pepper St., Sutter, CA at 12pm.
