Audrey Joy (Pomeroy) Johnson Obituary

Our beloved Audrey Joy Pomeroy Johnson went home to her Heavenly Father on the afternoon of May 22, 2017. She was born on January 7, 1939 to Joseph F. and Audrey Jones Pomeroy in Phoenix, Arizona; and was affectionately known as Audette to her loved ones.

Early in life Audrey decided that she wanted to become a nurse, just like her mother. This dream led to many years of relentless practice on her 7 younger siblings, giving them "shots" with rose thorns in the backyard. Immediately after High School she left for St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in San Francisco, California, graduating in 1959 as a Registered Nurse. She never lost her passion for this line of work or the people that she helped.

She married the love of her life, Jack Johnson, on January 16, 1961, and followed him as a Navy wife from Seattle to San Diego. As they started having children, they returned home to raise their family where they knew best.

Audrey founded the first medical program in our area to provide health care for patients in their own homes. Under the direction of the old Sutter County General Hospital, she became the Director of the Tri-County Home Health Agency in 1967.

During her time with Home Health, in the early 1980s, she brought hospice to the Yuba-Sutter community; attending trainings all over the state to become certified to teach and implement an accredited program of compassionate service to the terminally ill. Audrey then taught hospice for several years at Yuba College, training volunteers in our area for this special cause.

At one point, she did try to become a retired person, but with her natural penchant for needing to stay busy and have a tight schedule, she found that it did not suit her. She went back to work for Dr. Karen Kakishiba, and then for Feather River Tribal Health, where she spent many happy years doing what she loved.

Audrey was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Audrey's family and friends meant the world to her, and our world will be less vibrant without her special spirit.

Audrey leaves behind a loving family, who adore her, which include her children Minden, Jack Aaron, Ben (Tomoko), and Kimberly (Steve).

Her grandchildren, who brought her so much love and joy: Jennifer, Ashley, Jared, Mackenzi, Micah, Tyrone, Gavin, Christian, Hunter and William. She often said that they have been so much fun that she wished she'd had them first.

Her surviving siblings: Stanley, Patricia, Leslie, Mike and Del, her beloved nieces and nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 56 years, Jack Johnson, and siblings Elaine, Kathy, Talmadge, Anne, Nita Jo, Bill and Donnie.

Services will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2107 at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1259 French Ave., Gridley.
