Balwinder Singh Khangura, son of late Gurmail Singh and Gurmit Kaur, was born on August 19, 1948 in the village of Samrari, Punjab India. He migrated to California in his early teens with his parents and two siblings, Amrik Singh and Davinder Kaur. He joined the United States Army after graduating from Marysville High School. Upon returning home from the Vietnam War, he worked as a Sheriff for Sutter County. After leaving civil service, he spent many years in agriculture and real estate. His hobbies included hunting, flying, and sharing quality time with loved ones. Of all the roles he played, he will be most remembered for always offering a helping hand and giving unconditional love.
His legacy will be the countless lives he nurtured, guided, shaped and above all the endless love that enveloped all who had the good fortune to be near him. He emanated positivity and warmth. He was kind, genuine, sincere and his hugs could soothe all ailments. He was the patriarch of our family and will be missed dearly.
Balwinder passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013 at the age of 65. Balwinder is survived by his loving wife, Balbir Kaur Khangura, his children Sundeep, Rupinder, Harleen, David and his adoring grand kids.
Memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond St., Yuba City. Prayer services will follow at the Tierra Buena Sikh Temple on Tierra Buena Road in Yuba City, CA.
