Barbara Jean (Kohl) Smith Obituary
Barbara Jean Smith (Kohl),
Barbara Jean Smith, 90, passed away peacefully in her home in Yuba City. She was born May 15, 1924 to her parents, Walter and Thelma Kohl, in Durham, CA.

Barbara was raised in Biggs, CA. She was the older sister to Raymond and Walter, Jr., who preceded her in death. Barbara was married for 59 years to Robert N. Smith (deceased). They had five children; Russell E. Smith, of Oroville, CA; Marilyn B. Gowen, of Milwaukie, OR; Dianne L. Rose, of Yuba City, CA; Barbara A. Henke, of Keizer, OR; and Rhonda G. Smith, of Yuba City, CA. She had 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Barbara was dedicated to her home and family, instilling in her children the importance of family and fun. Barbara took great pleasure in gathering her family together for some fun and her great cooking. Not only was she a great cook, but a clever one, stretching what might normally feed two or three people into a meal for seven. She was a very hard worker and a dedicated mother and spouse – untiring in her dedication to her family.

The family lived in Live Oak for most of their years together. Barbara worked by Robert's side at their Mary Carter Paint store on Percy Ave. in Yuba City for many years. Later, she also worked as a cook in a preschool and then at a local nursing home until she retired at age 83.

After Robert's passing, Barbara filled her days with exercise classes at the senior center, playing cards, and traveling with friends and family. Many people admired Barbara for her energy, thoughtfulness, sense of adventure, and ability to make and keep friends. She lived a full life, which was only cut short by cancer.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 1:00pm at the Chapel of the Twin Cities in Yuba City.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Butchie's Pool, 144 Gibson Ave., Yuba City, CA 96991.
