Beamon Hill Obituary

Beamon Hill was born on March 14, 1934 to Fred Canty and Mary Lou Hill. He was raised by his grandparents, Rev. O.S. and Lummie B. Hill. He graduated from William James High School in 1952 with a scholarship in Mathematics.

After graduating from Clarke College, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served our country for 20 years and 6 days. He came to Beale Air Force Base in 1973. He was a member of the "Traveling 20" CBers Club. He was known as "Beam Bender" on the CB radio channel 19. He attended Yuba College where he was a full-time student, a math tutor and he graduated with a 4.3 GPA and earned his B.S.

He started the Yuba-Sutter Chess Academy on 225 2nd St., Yuba City, CA. He later moved his chess club to meeting at Carl's Jr. on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm. While he tutored at Yuba College, he would have 8 to 10 chess boards set up in the dining hall. He also worked for Marysville Joint Unified School District as a math tutor in the Yuba-Sutter Mall by the food court. He was the Yuba-Sutter chess king. Nobody could beat him. He even played chess via post cards by mail with people all over the world. He was a lifetime member of the International Chess Federation.

He worked at World Airways in Oakland, CA and he left there to work for Continental Airlines at LAX in LA. He was a Radio and Electronics Technician. He repaired the "black boxes" that are on airplanes. After retiring from the airlines, that freed up his time to do what he loved to do-play more chess. He would travel to Sacramento, CA, Los Angeles, CA, and Reno, Nevada to play chess tournaments and win money. In 2004 he was the Chess Club Champion for his division.

He was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church from 1982 until his death, where he was a deacon and past president of the Usher Board.

He married Joe Ann Jackson and to this union he had two sons; Beamon Anton Hill and Joseph Beamon Hill. They both preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn, Joe Ann Hill (Mama Joe), his son, John Courtney Dunnigan (wife Angelia) of Champagne, Illinois., daughter Judy Ann Jackson of Columbia, Mississippi, daughter, Virginia Farver of Mississippi (husband Albert). Beamon also leaves to mourn 23 grandchildren, 3 great grands and a host of nieces and nephews.
