Beatrice Edna Bassett Obituary

Beatrice Edna Bassett, age 92, passed away on June 30, 2014 at Yuba Care Skilled Nursing Facility. Beatrice was born on February 21, 1922 in Grand Rapids Michigan to Fredrick and Irene Merrill, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Beatrice is survived by her sons Larry (Susan) of Yuba City, CA, David (Patricia) of Ft. Wayne, IN and daughter Linda Mugmeyer (Mark) of Sparta, MI. She is survived by six grandchildren Todd Bassett (Renee) of Polson, MT, Scott Bassett (Linda) of Yuba City, CA, Jennifer Myers (Michael) of Indianapolis, IN, Chad (Shannon) of Noblesville, IN, Kimberly and Patrick of Grand Rapids, MI. Seven great grandchildren and special niece Sam Bouma & husband Gary of Dallas, TX.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth of 62 years and her parents.

During World War II, Beatrice was a parachute packer, and "Rosie the Riveter" for the U.S. Army Air Forces. She later became a professional seamstress and tailor. She was employed for several years designing and making baby clothes for Saks Fifth Avenue of New York City and Macy's.

After the death of her husband, Beatrice moved into assisted living and was known as the resident seamstress and bingo player until a heart attack placed her in the Yuba City Care Center.

The family would like to thank the Yuba City Care Center for their very professional and thoughtful care, and her doctors; Dr. Yolanda Chang, Dr. Rupinder Brar, Dr. Davinder Dillon who have been so very kind.

Beatrice has finally found peace after so many medical setbacks in the last few years. She will be remembered always.

No services are planned. Beatrice will be interned with her husband Kenneth in Grand Rapids, MI.
