Betty Jane Rice Obituary

Betty Jane Rice, 89, of Marysville, CA, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015, at Prestige Assisted Living, Marysville.

Born April 8, 1926, in Cleveland, OH, she was the eldest of two daughters born to Jack and Viola (Ault) Ross. At age seventeen, her family left Ohio for Los Angeles to join relatives already here. Working as a bartender after WWII, Betty's father met a young soldier, Carl Eugene (Gene) Rice, whom he brought home to meet his daughter. Gene and Betty were married in Las Vegas on January 15, 1949.

Before she retired, she worked as a secretary for AAA, John Hancock Insurance, the Presbyterian Church in Marysville, and Walton Fire District.

Betty has been an active member of this community since her arrival with husband, Gene, in 1950. She conducted the children's choir at the Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school. Betty was very active in Camp Fire Girls, the PTA, Yuba County Republican Women, and DOL. However, she would most like to be remembered for her volunteer work with the Rideout Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a "Pink Lady" since 1985. During that time, she served as the Auxiliary's president three times, was involved in every aspect of the organization (except floral design), totaling over 19,000 volunteer hours. Because of her devotion to the auxiliary, she was awarded the Friend of the Foundation Lifetime Membership from the Fremont-Rideout Foundation in 2009.

Betty is preceded in death by husband of sixty-three years, Gene.

Survivors include daughters Susan (Danny) Hight of Marysville and Deborah (Joe) Abdallah of Stockton; son Tim (Donalee) Rice of El Dorado Hills; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and sister Sally Rice of Sandy, OR, and many ni nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Marysville at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 14th, 2015, with Reverend Richard Hinkle officiating. A reception will follow at the church's Huston hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Betty's name to the Rideout Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, 724 4th St., Marysville, CA 95901.

The family would like to thank Sutter North Hospice Staff and especially the staff at Prestige Assisted Living in Marysville for all of their loving care, assistance and support.

Family burial services were held at Sutter Cemetery, Sutter, CA.

Funeral services are under the direction of Lipp & Sullivan Funeral Directors.
