Bill McRunels Obituary

Bill McRunels, of Marysville, CA, passed away peacefully in his home on June 14, 2016, surrounded by his wife, daughter, grandson, and son-in-law. His son also joined them remotely via live video streaming. Bill was born on May 5, 1932, in Hindsville, Arkansas to William Jennings and Dora Tennessee McRunels. At the age of 5, his family migrated to Marysville where Bill attended local schools. In 1956, he met the love of his life, Fredda Jones, whom he married on August 30, 1958.

Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marysville and a member of the Masonic Enterprise Lodge No. 70 in Yuba City. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. For many years, most weekends and certainly most of his birthdays and Father's Days, he and Fredda, and often the kids, could be found in one of the area rivers on their fishing boat trying to hook a salmon or striped bass. During his prime years, most Saturday nights were spent playing penny ante poker at Bill and Fredda's home, or one of the other 3 couples that regularly played. Although Bill enjoyed the poker playing, he truly appreciated the camaraderie even more. Bill and his Uncle Clyde were experts at taking whatever the opposing side was and debating their political differences. Bill was entertained and amused by getting the majority riled up.

First and foremost, Bill's number one priority was his family. He loved family get-togethers, whether it was his family, Fredda's family, or a combination of both. Bill was retired from federal civil service after 33 years, mainly working at the 100th Civil Engineering Squadron at Beale Air Force Base and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.

Bill is survived by his wife Fredda, daughter Kimberly Birdwell and her husband Barry, son Steven McRunels, grandson Bryan Birdwell, honorary son Cary J. Tonasket, sister Sandra Morris, and many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Esther Ryan and Kathy McKiernan.

Donations may be made to Sutter North Hospice, 400 Plumas Blvd., #115, Yuba City, CA 95991, or First Presbyterian Church, 1940 freeman St., Marysville, CA, 95901, or a .
