Carole Lorraine Spiller Obituary

January 19, 1935 to May 18, 2017

Our mom, Carole L. Spiller, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2017 at the age of 82. She was born Carole Lorraine Favilla on January 19, 1935 to her late parents, Paul and Blanche Favilla of Marysville, CA.

Mom was a Sutter County resident for 82 years, as a business woman and community leader. She strongly believed in volunteering and was willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Mom was an original SIW, (strong independent woman). She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert DeHoff (2002) and her second husband, Walt Spiller (2004).

Carole is survived by many family members; her three children, daughter, Theresa (DeHoff) Hughbanks, and sons, Kevin DeHoff and Eric DeHoff; one granddaughter, Vanessa Hughbanks; two siblings, brother Paul Favilla (Judy) and sister Edythe (Favilla) Heinzler (Carl); two stepchildren, Stephanie (Martin) Spiller and Mike Spiller (Linda); two step-grandchildren, Nicole (Martin) Rieland, Kayla Martin and Kristi (Spiller) Rosenfeld; two step-great-grandchildren, Ethan and Emma Rieland; along with countless friends she had touched over the years.

This is the legacy of our beloved mom. Carole worked for Sutter County for 41 years, as head of Information Technology for data processing. She pioneered to switch from paper to computers in 1960. She was strong, educated and showed perseverance in a male dominated field. As such, she was appointed the first female president of the County Data Processing in 1965. Working hard and with much determination, she broke down societal barriers.

A passion that she taught her children was to volunteer and give back to the community. She donated her time frequently to numerous organizations and charities. She said, "I just do things behind the scenes, not for recognition" and "I really enjoy just helping people and working with them, and anytime I can do something to help somebody, it makes me feel good". This sums up our mother perfectly - she was generous, selfless and a community leader.
