Carolyn J. Sanders Obituary
Carolyn J. Sanders
Carolyn J. Sanders, 81, Marysville, died at 9:30 a.m., Friday, April 21, 2017 at Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville from a stroke.

She was born in Canton, Ohio and her family moved to the Y-S area in 1943 when her mother married Andrew O'Brien who was stationed at Camp Beale. She attended Marysville Elementary School and graduated from the 8th grade. Upon graduation she attended Marysville High School from 1949 to 1951 after which her family moved to Ohio. Carolyn graduated from Mansfield High School in Ohio in 1953 and attended Miami Valley Nursing School in Dayton, Ohio. After her graduation from nursing school her family moved back to the Y-S area.

The family enticed her to come back to California in 1956 and seek employment in the Y-S area. Carolyn's first job was at Fremont Hospital when it was located on the southeast corner of Colusa Ave. and Plumas St. Jim, who had corresponded with her for several years, was attending Chico State College, and she decided to move to Chico, Ca. where she was employed by Enloe Hospital.  In 1957 she and Jim married.  In 1960 she and Jim moved to Fresno and she was employed at the Fresno Community Hospital. In 1962 she returned to the Y-S area and was employed by Fremont Hospital. In 1973 Carolyn, Jim and the boys moved to Germany for a year for Jim's Fulbright teacher's exchange. Carolyn, who was not one to sit home alone, decided one day to walk to the Kreiskrankenhaus Buchholtz (county hospital) and applied for a job. She accepted their offer and was employed for six months. On returning to Yuba City she was again employed by Fremont Hospital and stayed there until she transferred to Rideout Hospital in Marysville. She retired in 2002.

She is survived by her husband Jim of 60 years, three sons, Joel (Kristine) of Williams, Curtis (Diana) of Yuba City and Karl (Susie) of Chico. Also, six grandchildren; Danica and Dylan, Mitchel and Mathew, Samantha and Ben.

Carolyn was a devout member of the First United Methodist Church in Marysville, a daily customer of Starbuck's in Marysville and a loyal Giants fan.

A memorial will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Maryville on Saturday May 6, 2017 from 11:00 am to noon with a reception to follow.
