Carolyn Marie Stevens Sweet Obituary

Carolyn Marie Stevens Sweet entered heaven on October 31, 2013. She was born April 3, 1930, the oldest child of Dr. Walter Leslie and Pauline Stevens in Los Angeles, California.

Carolyn attended College of the Pacific, Stockton CA where she met her future husband Van T. Sweet. Following graduation in Home Economics and Music, they married and spent the next 61 years together. Carolyn and Van lived in Maxwell while Van was the Superintendent of the Maxwell Unified School District.

Carolyn was a wife, homemaker, mother, teacher, competitor, gourmet cook, cake creator, consultant, musician, and world traveler. Carolyn had a passion for cooking and creating new dishes. She competed in various fairs and national recipe competitions winning top honors. She loved to share her cooking expertise with students - teaching inmates, high school and college classes; 4-H members; and various community organizations. She was a mainstay whenever there was a community event that involved food.

Carolyn showed her creative side when creating one-of-a-kind birthday and wedding cakes. She loved to host dinner parties for family events, friends, Rotarians, the school staff, and athletic teams.

Carolyn was active in the Methodist Church and Rotary International. In Rotary she served five terms as president of the Dos Palos Club and Assistant Governor for District 5220. She and Van loved to travel and completed 88 cruises. They have traveled all over the world including attending several international Rotary Conventions and outreach missions.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Walter Leslie Stevens and Pauline Stevens, and her sister, Patricia Wooddell.

Carolyn is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Van T. Sweet, Dos Palos CA, children: Steve (Kathy) Sweet, Brunswick, MD; Cindy (Bill) Lovelace, Maxwell, CA; Chuck (Dawn) Sweet, Dos Palos, CA; and Sue (Ron) Johnson, Grand Junction, CO; nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

A celebration of Carolyn's life will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Dos Palos United Methodist Church, Dos Palos, CA.
