Catharina (van der Dussen) Weststeyn Obituary

September 13, 1929 – November 18, 2017. Catharina Weststeyn, of Wheatland, California, passed away on November 18, 2017. She was the cherished wife for nearly 62 years of John B. Weststeyn, before his passing on January 30, 2013, and beloved mother and grandmother of Josina Conant (Joe), Kacy, Juliet, and John; Mary Ann Daly (Bill), Carolyn Cook (Larry), Lauren, and Jonathan; Barbara den Hartog (Pieter), Pieter Arie (Elena), Michael, and Kevin, and loving great grandmother to Levi and Robin Cook.

Catharina Margaretha was born September 13, 1929, in 'sGravenmoer, the Netherlands. She was the first child of eight born to Izak Van Der Dussen and Maria Verbeek Van Der Dussen. Following the passing of her father when she was just seven years old, Catharina shared the responsibility of caring for her younger brothers and sisters during the years of the war. Growing up during this time, she learned the values of faith, love, community and friendship, keeping and sharing these values throughout her life. She was a Christian; a loving and a giving woman.

John and Catharina met in February 1948, two months before John and his family were set to immigrate to Ripon, California. Catharina and John wrote letters for three years while he worked with purpose, to make a life in America. John traveled to the Netherlands to marry Catharina on April 11, 1951.

With a great sense of adventure, Catherina and John voyaged to the United States to become patriotic Americans. Working together on dairies, they formed many enduring friendships with fellow immigrants sharing a common sense of entrepreneurship.

In 1963, Catharina and John began a business of their own and moved to the Wheatland area, where they continued to develop both their community and friendships. Catharina was a dedicated friend to many. She enjoyed making others laugh and cooking delicious meals for friends and family, including incredible Easter and Christmas celebrations in her beautiful garden. She loved flowers, almost as much as she loved children, often found with a child on her lap singing and talking with them.

Catharina loved her church family, whom also loved her, for which our family is abundantly grateful. We thank them for their love and support of Catharina. We take comfort in knowing that Catharina is reunited in heaven with her adored husband, as well as many loved ones, and that she is experiencing great joy in the presence of the Lord.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28th, 2017, at the First Reformed Church located at 9882 Garden Highway, Yuba City.
