Catherine Kaelin Obituary

Cathy Kaelin, age 76, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2017 at Woodland Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Cathy is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Louie; daughter Camie Kaelin (Blaine Martin) of Colusa; son Richard Kaelin (Natasha Chen) of Walnut Creek, CA; and niece, Dr. Kathleen M. Dominguez of Marshfield, WI. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward W. Cavanaugh; mother, Vera R. Dory; and brother, Tim Cavanaugh, Ph.D.

Cathy was born in Oakland, CA, on June 20, 1940. At the age of 3, the Cavanaugh family relocated to Quincy, CA where Cathy attended local schools. Following graduation from Quincy High School in 1958, she attended College of the Pacific for one year. In 1959 she transferred to California State University at Berkley. Then, in 1960, she transferred to California State University at Chico where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree. During her time at CSU, Chico she joined the Sigma Kappa Sorority.

Following graduation from college in 1962, she enrolled in the Summer Intensive Language Program at Monterey majoring in French in hopes of fulfilling her aspirations of becoming an international flight attendant. While waiting for a position to open, she lived in San Francisco and worked as a law receptionist. On November 14, 1964, she married her college sweetheart, Louis H. Kaelin, of Colusa, CA and together they began their life. They enjoyed over 52 years of marriage where she was a homemaker.

An active member of the community, Cathy was a Life Member of The Alpha Kappa Chapter of Omega Nu Sorority where she held the office of Treasurer for twelve years. She served on the Colusa County Grand Jury two terms. Always involved and active with her children, she served as room mother, attended all sporting events, and supported all of their extra-curricular activities. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and loved cats.

A Celebration of Cathy's life will be held at 11:00a.m.on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the family ranch, 217 Grevie Road, Arbuckle, CA 95912.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Cathy's name to the Omega Nu Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 747 Colusa, CA 95932.
