Charles David Keeney Obituary

Charles David Keeney was born in Panama, Oklahoma on May 25, 1935 to Edward and Minnie Keeney. Charles died at Kaiser Hospital in Roseville, California on October 8, 2014. He was 79 years young.

Charles married Margie (Thornton) Keeney on July 14, 1956. Charles and Margie lived in Pleasant Grove for 41 years before moving to Lincoln Hills, California. They were married for 58 years. They had two sons Steven (Sue) & Dennis (Trudy) Keeney. Survived by six grandchildren; Randy, Kalah, Kyser, Kolt, Deanna Keeney and April (Adam) Lee, eleven great grandchildren; Amy, Hunter, C.J., Danae, Alee, Irie, Lillie Keeney, Jersey and Sage Lee, Daylin and Waylon Jackson and numerous nephews and nieces.

Charles was the third of nine children. Survived by his siblings Evelyn (Larry) Thornton, Kenneth, Dolores Dier, William (Debbie), and Tim (Laura) Keeney. He is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Minnie and siblings Floyd, Kathryn Theodosis, James and grandson Steven Lowell-Stewart.

Charles retired from Van Dykes Rice Dryer as General Manager in 2006. He spent 53 years in the rice industry. Charles was a member of California Warehouse Association for many years of his career. He was a charter member of the Lincoln Hills Lions Club, served on the Pleasant Grove School board for seven years. He also volunteered at the Pleasant Grove Fire Department and was a Manager and Coach for South Sutter Little League for many years.

Charles loved music and was in a band as a young adult. After retiring he joined the Lincoln Highway Band as their drummer. During his five years with the band, Lincoln Highway was voted Best of the Best Band by the Lincoln News Messenger for five consecutive years.

Charles also enjoyed golfing, gardening and going to sports games of ALL his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 18th, 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, 2701 Howsley Rd Pleasant Grove, CA. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will take place at Lake Minden, 1256 Marcum Rd in Nicolaus, CA. Funeral preparations are by Lambert Funeral Home in Roseville.
