Charles Kent LaViolette Sr. Obituary

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, 10:30 am at the Gridley Biggs Cemetery for Charles Kent LaViolette, Sr., 78 of Gridley. He passed away on September 6, 2014 in Reno, Nevada.

He was born on September 2, 1936, in Oakland, California to Lillian Janssen and Bert Robinson.

Charles "Chuck" was a loving man, who loved everyone and was loved by all. He will always be remembered for his memorable firm hand shake, his warm hug, and genuine smile. Chuck lived his entire life in Gridley and attended all the Gridley schools. While in high school, he excelled in FFA, football, and track. He also played football for Yuba College and his 1955 team was inducted into the Yuba College Football Hall of Fame.

Chuck had his own land-leveling business and then went to work for Robinson Construction. He then went to work for Operating Engineers, Local No. 3, where he operated heavy equipment until he retired in 1999.

After retirement, he renewed his farming interest and established LaViolette Family Farms. He truly enjoyed working at Farmer's Markets and his customers in return truly adored him. He was an avid fly-fisherman and hunter. Chuck enjoyed raising and training Labrador retrievers. He established his own personal business, North Butte Sink Guide Service, specializing in waterfowl, then ventured into North Butte Sink Labs and Broken Wing Duck Club with guided Goose Hunts. He enjoyed golfing with his friends, son-in-law Jesus, and daughter Michelle. He was a CWA Life Donor and Member, and a member of the Gridley Moose. Chuck married Donna LaViolette on July 23, 1977, and they spent the last 37 years together.

Chuck is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and step-dad, his first wife Gail LaViolette and son, Charles Kent LaViolette, Jr.

He is survived by his wife Donna of Gridley; daughters Terri LaViolette of Chico; and Michelle Solis (Jesus) of Gridley; former daughter-in-law Shelley Cadek of Richvale; grandson Travis LaViolette (Mindy) of Gridley; granddaughter Samantha Stopplemore (Travis) of Richvale; grandsons Jaden and Alec Solis of Gridley; great-grandchildren Brynlee, Charlee and soon-to-arrive Dillon LaViolette and Sydnee and Clay Stopplemore; and many cousins.

A visitation will be held on September 15, 2014 from 5-8 PM at the Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.

Arrangements are entrusted to Gridley- Block Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to California Waterfowl Association (www.calwaterfowl.org).
