Charles Miller Obituary

Charles William Miller passed away peacefully at the age of 83, on September 19, 2017. Charles (Chuck) was born in Missouri on February 2, 1934, to Alvin and Elsie Miller, who later moved to California and grew their family with Charles' brothers, Don and Carl.

Chuck grew up in Chester, where his love for the outdoors and the mountains was instilled in him and where he learned to fish, hunt, ski and camp. He was a member of the first graduating class of Chester High School.

After serving in the Army, Chuck spent a 38-year career working for the state of California, first with the Department of Water Resources during construction of the Oroville Dam, followed by many years with Caltrans District 3 in Marysville, as an electrical engineer designing traffic signals and lighting installations and as a resident engineer on construction projects across eleven northern California counties.

During his Caltrans career he served a year as statewide president of the Professional Engineers in California Government. He was active in local politics, serving on the Sutter County Republican Central Committee, the Sutter County Taxpayers Association and Tea Party groups.

Chuck was a passionate hobbyist, from designing and building his own duck hunting boat to "grabbing the gusto" of life at ski resorts the world over and from hang-gliding and scuba-diving to flying extra hours to achieve a commercial pilot's license to hunting. He was never one to do anything half-way. Chuck organized and led countless hiking and camping trips, road trips, ski trips and numerous other adventures with family and friends.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patricia; children, Mike, Ken, Cindy, John, Jenny, and Cameron; grandchildren, Ashley, Sarah, Nathaniel, Gillian, Andrew, Morgan, Brittney, Aziza, Abigail, Shelbie, Samantha, Lacie, Whitney, Kristina, Jessica, Erin; and great grandchildren, Ariyana, Ezra, Houston, Brexleigh, Milo and Adelaide and brother Don.

Services will be at 11 am, Monday, September 25, 2017, at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 222 S. Clark Avenue, Yuba City. Private graveside services will be after a reception immediately following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to and share a smile.
