Christine Kazuyo Nishijima Obituary

On the morning of June 23, 2017, we lost our loving Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Niece, Cousin and Friend, Christine Kazuyo Nishijima, at the age of 72 years. She passed away peacefully at home with her devoted Sons and "Best Dog" Kallie at her side after a brave and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Born November 3, 1944 in the Japanese-American Internment camp at Tule Lake, CA, Christine was raised in Yuba City, CA on the home Peach Ranch and attended the local elementary and high school. She moved to Sacramento and worked as a Legal Secretary in the Dept. of Health Care Services, and an Account Representative for North American Food Distributing where she made lasting friendships. Leading into her retirement, her last position of Legal Assistant was at the State Controller's Office where she was highly regarded as "a kind and gracious presence."

Christine was totally to family and anyone she considered a friend; she always wanted to make sure others were taken care of before herself. She was extremely proud of her 2 sons and 3 beautiful granddaughters. She forever beamed about their accomplishments, world travels, and always wanted to help and support them in any way she could. Whether it was making her famous macaroni salad (with or without crab), deviled eggs, 7-layer jello, attending Color Guard shows, hosting New Year's parties (Japanese style) or adding the final touch "decorative parsley" to any dish.

She is survived by sons, Rick Nishijima (Cindy) and Curtis (Todd); granddaughters Michelle, Rachel and Shari; brother Ron (Gini); sisters Susan (Martin) and JoAnne (Dave); nephews Devin and Colin Yan ... and of course Kallie.

We have all learned so much from her example and became better people for knowing her. We wish to express our sincere gratitude to California Caregivers and Blossom Ridge for taking such loving care of her and being part of her beautiful life story.

With respect to her final wishes, a private family Celebration of Life will be held at her family home. Any condolences or kind wishes may be sent there.
