Delbert Mar, of Marysville, passed away peacefully on March 30th, at the age of 89. Del was born in Sacramento, and grew up in the delta town of Locke. He attended Courtland High School, and enlisted in the Navy in 1942. After training in San Diego, Delbert was assigned to the USS Seawolf (SS-197) during WWII, on wear he made eight war patrols from 1942-1944.

He was also one of the first Chinese-Americans to join the Submarine Service. He received the Submarine Combat Medal with 3 Stars and 2 Letters of Commendation. He was Honorable Discharged in October 1945.
Delbert moved his family to Marysville in 1955. He spent many years in the grocery business in the Yuba- Sutter area, and retired as a long-haul truck driver. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, easy going nature and great cooking skills.
After 63 years of marriage, he leaves behind his wife Mable Mar of Marysville, his daughters; Susan (Steven) Oesterreicher, Debbie (Larry) Mar of Sacramento and Roberta (Lance) Lew of Petaluma; sons Tony (Jan) Mar and Tim (Gina) Mar of Marysville; 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, siblings; Allan Mar, Evelyn Mar and Brenda Fullerton; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Ella Mar and his sister Marie Fong.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, April 6th, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Klumpps Chapel of Flowers, 2691 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento. Private Graveside Service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances made to the First Chinese Baptist Church, 4470 Custis Ave., Sacramento, CA 95822.
