Denver Lee Duncan Obituary

Denver Lee Duncan, 83 of Yuba City, passed away on March 3, 2017 with his family by his side in Yuba City, California. Denver was born in Marshal, Arkansas on June 26, 1933 to Corey and Opal Duncan. They moved to Yuba City in 1941 where they worked a family farm.

In 1955 Denver joined the Sutter County Sheriff's Department where he worked as a Patrol Deputy, Detective, and Chief Deputy Coroner of Sutter County, retired as a Detective Sergeant. In 1971 he was named Peace officer of the year. He was forced into retirement due to an injury in 1974. After retirement he returned to the Farm industry as a Peach buyer for Contidina Foods and Sacramento Foods. In 1985 he obtained his private investigators license. After retirement he served his community on the Grand Jury of Sutter County and on the Yuba City Planning Commission. He was a member of local Yuba City Masonic Lodge, and a fifty year member of Shriners. His passions were hunting, fishing and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Denver is preceded in death by his father Corey, mother Opal, sisters Willie Mullett, Diane Duncan and brother Bobby Duncan.

Denver is survived by his spouse Raycene Duncan of 32 years, daughter Denise James, son David Duncan and (Karen), stepdaughter Tonya and Tim Williams and sister Neva Osgood. Grandchildren Dustin and Jennifer Duncan, Brandon and Michelle Wilson, Devyn Duncan, Brooke Duncan, Trisha and Jerry Henry, Brian and Jennifer Ochipinti, Shelby Lehor and Wyatt Redamonti; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Denver was affectionately known to his family and friends as "Papa", we hold forever in our hearts his loving memory.

Graveside services will be conducted Friday, March 10, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Sutter Cemetery with Pastor Morgan Underwood, United Pentecostal Church, Yuba City officiating. The family suggests memorials may be made to Sutter Health Hospice.
