1937 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
Donald Dee Westphal Obituary

Donald Westphal passed away on March 31, 2016 surrounded by the love of his family. Don was born on June 27, 1937 to Shelby and Helen Westphal in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Don grew up in Yuba City and attended area schools. He served in the Army National Guard and assisted during the 1955 flood. Don worked as a surveyor for Gillette and Harris in Yuba City and eventually opened Westphal Construction. He retired from this business about ten years ago.

He moved to Madera where he and his loving wife, Elizabeth settled in their new home. He was a self taught expert in computers. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was an excellent cook and baker. He loved Nascar racing, Fox News and classic rock and roll, in particular, Pink Floyd. His recent favorite pastime was target shooting and he was quite the shot!

Don is survived by his wife Elizabeth Westphal of Madera; his daughters and sons-in-law, Dawna and Doug Beeler of Browns Valley, Kellee and Dale Bowers, Tracee and John Powell all of Marysville; his son Brad Westphal of Salem, OR; daughter Shauna Westphal of Portland, OR and his stepson Joe Librers of Hollister. He also leaves behind his sisters Janis Beatty of Marysville and Penny Kerr of San Jose. Don is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law along with his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby Westphal and Helen Westphal Senter, his step-father Dick Senter; his brother Steve Westphal and his step-son Tony Librers.

A private celebration of Don's life will be held at a later date.

Don will be in our hearts and thoughts forever! Life should not be a methodical journey to the grave with the goal being sure, safe arrival in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, flute of champagne in hand, screaming "What a Ride!"
