Donald Eugene Ketchum Obituary

Donald Eugene Ketchum, 87 of Marysville, CA, passed away on March 18, 2015 after a long fight with cancer.

Don was born August 7, 1927 in Monterey, CA the first of 6 children of Mel Ketchum and Tonia Corona. Raised in Gilroy, CA he excelled in sports and was named the most outstanding athlete of his Class. Upon graduating from high school he joined the US Navy serving on the USS Beaty in the South Pacific arena.

Returning home, he began work in agriculture sales. In 1947 he was transferred to Marysville, CA. On April 11, 1948, Don married his high school sweetheart, Louise Noble. Together for 67 years they lived in Linda, CA where they raised 4 boys and 3 girls. He worked at various mills in Marysville and Yuba City as a salesman. In 1964, he transferred to 7up Bottling Company.

Don had a great sense of humor and was especially good with youth. He was a Little League Manager and was active in the Boy Scouts of America organization.

Don was a family man. He and Louise spent many happy times with their children, grandchildren, great- grand children and extended family.

After retirement he and Louise loved to travel, going throughout US and Europe.

Don was a proud elder in the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band (previously San Juan Band) where he was active in tribal activities.

Don was a man of great faith, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many positions including Stake Missionary, Seventy Quorum President and High Priest Quorum Leader.

Don is survived by sisters Gloria Sordello of Reno, NV and Martha Ketchum of Lebanon, OR; and brothers Harold (Noni) and Mel Ketchum of Gilroy, CA; seven children: Ed (Tina) Ketchum, Ric Ketchum, Claudia (Gary) Carmichael, Lester (Connie) Ketchum, Roger Ketchum, Carol Ketchum, Cheri Ketchum; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held March 26, 2015 (Thursday) at 10 am at the LDS Chapel on North Beale Road in Linda, CA. Other services are to be determined. Contribution can be given to Rideout Hospice, 939 Live Oak Blvd, Yuba City, CA 95991.
