Donald O. Wright Obituary

After a brave battle with oral cancer, Donald Oliver Wright passed away on June 24, 2016 at home surrounded by family. Don was 83 years old.

Donald was the youngest son of Lawrence and Juna Wright and a longtime resident of Yolo County.

Donald was born November 29, 1932 in Buena Park, CA where he attended grade school through his first year of high school. His parents bought rice property in Robbins, CA and he, his parents, and older brother Duane moved in 1947.

He attended Yuba City High School and was active in football. He graduated in 1950. He then attended Yuba College before starting work for John Taylor Fertilizer Company. He moved his family to Gridley, CA. Don then accepted a position with Pacific Valley Oilseed Company, which brought him to Woodland, CA. He was a pioneer in the growth and use of safflower.

Don then moved on to work for the Balsdon-Wilmarth Ranch in Grimes, CA. He was the foreman for Martin Wilmarth and upon Martin's passing became the foreman under Jim Balsdon remaining in that capacity until his retirement in 2003.

Don was an active member of the Marysville Elks Lodge and when he moved to Woodland, was active with them as well.

He was also active with the American Legion where he and his wife, Beverly, spent many an afternoon with friends as well as helping out with the dinners and events.

Don is survived by his daughters and son, Jana Canada of Yuba City, Lisa Pritchard of Gridley and Jon Wright of Parker, CO, two stepdaughters, Tiffany Sims of Salem, SC and Victoria Norton, address unknown. Don also has 5 grandchildren, Mychele Pritchard, Roy Pritchard, Danelle Wright, Braden Wright and Brian Wright, along with Victoria's children.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 22, 2016 at 1 pm at the Woodland American Legion, 523 Bush Street, Woodland, CA.
