Donald P. Fitzpatrick Obituary

Donald "Don" P. Fitzpatrick, also known as "Mr. Fitz", a long-time resident of Yuba City, lost his battle with brain cancer and went peacefully to be with our Lord on February 7, 2018.

Born April 19, 1956 in Oceanside, he graduated from Rancho Alamitos High School in Garden Grove, in 1974. He then attended Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Missouri, Pacific Christian College in Fullerton where he also operated and supervised the dormitory, and Long Beach City College.

Before he came to the Y-S area, he worked at the Orange County Probation Department as a Group Counselor where he ran various counseling groups and taught vocational training.

Don volunteered at Friday Night Live since 1993 where he provided a secure environment for social interactions between kids. He volunteered as an assistant football coach at Marysville High School in 2001 – 2005 where his son, Nathan, played and was so proud when the teams won a championship title three times during this period.

He retired as a Deputy Probation Officer five years ago from Yuba County Probation where he worked since 1989. He was a Deputy Probation Officer and was first assigned to work at the juvenile hall. His next assignment was as school prevention officer at Alicia School in Olivehurst where he took an active and personal interest in each student, always guiding them to be better. To this day, all the kids remember Mr. Fitz. His last assignment was adult supervision of a drug case load.

After retiring and still wanting to give back to the community, in 2013 he took over as the Director of Joshua House Men's Center in Marysville where he continued to help those who lost their way get back on track. He worked there until he passed away. Don's commitment to his community and his work was truly extraordinary.

Don was an active member of Crossroads Community Church for the past ten years where he volunteered daily before getting sick, doing everything from answering the phone to sitting on the Board of Directors, a position which he held with great pride. In every instance of Don's life, he emulated Jesus' life. That will be his greatest gift to us all. Above all, Don was a Godly and honorable man; that is how he lived, how he loved, and how he raised his family.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie; son, Nathan (Laura) of Savannah, Georgia; daughter, Shannon Arce (Angel) of Yuba City; stepdaughters, Catrina Whitlow (Jeremy) of Yuba City and Crystal Mantle (Mike) of Sacramento; and his grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Jaycee, Luke, Aubrey, twins Brooklyn and Baylee, Ella, Emme and Harper. He is also survived by his mother, Maureen Bowen (Larry) of Anaheim; his brother, Jim; and sister, Colleen Barbieri both of Florida; three half-brothers, Darrin, Kevin and Bryan; 19 nieces and nephews and 13 great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas U. Fitzpatrick; and brothers, Tom and Jack.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at noon at Crossroads Community Church, 445 B Street, Yuba City.

To continue Don's legacy of helping others, in lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to Joshua House Men's Center c/o Crossroads Community Church, 445 B Street, Yuba City, CA 95993.
