Dorothy Louise Hazleton Obituary

Dorothy Hazleton was born in Marysville on Feburary 17th, 1919. A lifelong resident of Sutter County, she died January 13th, 2017 at the age of 97.

She graduated from Central Gaither Elementary School, Yuba City High School and Chico State University. In 1941, she started her career as a teacher in Gridley. In 1942, when her husband joined the army, she taught briefly in Feather Falls, then returned to Yuba City where she supervised schools under Mrs. A. Mead the Yuba County Superintendent of Schools. She then taught 1st. Grade in Robbins and at Central-Gaither until retirement in 1974.

She is survived by her son Richard Uren, step-daughter D'Ann Fournier, a step-grandson Casey Fournier, two step-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews locally, and cousins in Luxembourg and Germany. She was preceeded in death by her husbands Harold "Rod" Uren and Charles Hazleton, her brothers Joe Serger, John Serger, Robert Serger, and sister Elsie Serger.

Dorothy was a member of Peach Tree Golf and Country Club where she enjoyed golf with her friends and was also a member of the Roadrunner Club in Borrego Springs where she spent many winters.

A Celebration of Life will be held for her at the Refuge on February 17th. Seating will be by reservation only. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite causes.
