Although I didn't know Mr. Saeger personally, I would still like to send my condolences to his friends and family. His story touched me as it reminds me of my own father, born in 1904, who was orphaned at 10 and lived on his own from then on. He had been forced to write with his right hand and as a southpaw that messed up his writing for life. I could read it, but not many others could! Those who lived through those rough times sure had some stories to tell, and I still love listening to anyone from that era. Through rough times, and good times they always found some joy in life. May Mr. Saeger rest in peace.

Earl Saeger and I were great friends. I didn't meet Earl until he was almost 70 years old. We seemed to have a way of making each other laugh, and it was a refreshing friendship. I especially remember how he would always have some soup cooking when I would arrive at his house. I live in Sonoma county, so the 2+ hour drive would make me hungry. When I arrived, I always knew there would be soup or something there to eat. It was refreshing. We would talk and smoke cigarettes for hours. He was a grouchy old thing at times and we had a lot of fun with that.
Earl taught me so much about life and friendship. I would have never thought my best friend would be 40 years older than me, but he was. We could talk about anything. Earl and I were close friends for almost 20 years. I will miss him terribly.
He had a sweet tooth, a sharp wit, an eye for art and tradition, a deep love for animals, and a great sense of humor. He was a veteran, a school teacher and a principal. He was a man who stood strong in his beliefs and who wasn't afraid to have some adventure. We went traveling thru Italy and had a great time at Christmas Eve midnite mass at the Vatican. We went to Nebraska to Boys Town, where he had lived for a while as a boy, and also visited relatives there. We had lots of good times in San Francisco and Yuba City, too.
Rest in Peace, Earl. Life just won't be the same here without you.
Always in my heart,
Dreamer

Mr Saeger was my 4th and 5th grade teacher at Bear River School in Wheatland. I am now 38 years old and have 2 children of my own. He touched my life, and I will forever be grateful for his guidance. He was a firm, kind and loving man. I am sure he will be missed by so many .....including me. RIP Mr Saeger, see you in Heaven.
