Earnest Tucker Obituary

On December 3, 2010 Earnest Roy Tucker of Live Oak, passed away at the age of 81. Roy was born March 6, 1929, to Lonnie and Ira Tucker in the small town of Anderson, Alabama. He was the fourth of five boys. As a small boy, Roy worked the fields of his parent's farm. He would tell his grandchildren about picking cotton and corn until the sacks weighed more than he did. He especially enjoyed telling stories about the horrors of the outhouse and the snakes in the storm cellar. The Tucker family lived in California from 1942 to 1945, during that time Roy attended Live Oak High School. Roy moved to Detroit, Michigan to find work then came back to California in 1948. On March 7, 1953 he married Donna Colleen Hodge, a local Live Oak girl. He said "it was the best brithday present he ever got." They enjoyed traveling together. In 1961 they had a daughter Janine, and in 1963 a son Lonnie. Roy worked for Van Tress Hatchery and Sunny's Market in Live Oak. He was the manager of the Live Oak Cemetery for 20 years before retiring in 1994. Throughout Roy's life, he was a "helper". If you were planting a garden, putting on a new roof, pruning trees or painting a house, Roy was always there to help. Roy was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He was also a member of the Live Oak Lions Club, Reserve Live Oak Police Officer and Live Oak Little League. Roy is proceeded in death by his parents, Lonnie Oliver and Ira Orlanda Tucker; four brothers: Wallace, Austin, Amos and Hollis Tucker. Roy leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Colleen Tucker of Live Oak; his daughter and son-in-law, Janine and Lyle Akin; son Lonnie Tucker; and three grandchildren: Joshua, Lindsey, and Emily Akin. Services will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Live Oak Cemetery Committal Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ullrey Memorial Chapel. Memorial/Contributions can be made to Sutter North Hospice, or Delta Kappa Iota Scholarship Fund. Send Condolences at www.appealdemocrat.com

Live Oak has lost another treasure. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Roy was such an amazing and funny guy and it was a pleasure having known him. What makes small towns like Live Oak great are the folks like him.
