Edgar Allen Hanson Obituary

Edgar Allen Hanson, M.D. aka Dr. Ed Hanson, of Yuba City, CA, passed away November 4, 2104.

Ed was born in Humboldt, Iowa, on May 8, 1929. He spent the initial years of his life through high school in the local schools of his hometown. He began college at Iowa State College at Ames Iowa and transferred after 2 years to the University of Iowa at Iowa City in the College of Pharmacy. Later he was accepted into the College of Medicine at Iowa graduating in 1957 with the degree of doctor of medicine.

He interned at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa and spent a year at the VA Hospital in Iowa City as a resident in surgery. In 1959 he moved to California as a resident physician at the Butte County Hospital in Oroville. 2 years later to he left to establish a practice in Marysville and later moving to Yuba City with two partners for the next 28 years.

He was very active in local medical affairs, becoming president of the local medical society, member of the Fremont-Rideout Hospitals and boards of directors, serving as president of the board for 2 years and multiple committees of the boards over the years assisting in fundraising and enlargement of the hospitals and expansion of the associated allied facilities as the hospitals grew in size and bed capacity over the years. He has continued to service the hospitals in an advisory capacity almost until his death.

He led an active life enjoying hunting, fishing and skiing throughout the west with many friends. He was an inveterate traveler for years but especially after retirement when he completed his goal of visiting all seven continents and dozens of countries throughout the world.

He participated in the Ben Ali Shriners and did screening physicals on children for admission to the Shriner Hospital and clinics for about 10 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Bruce of Yuba City, CA; one son Stuart Hansen of Roseville, CA; 4 grandchildren; one sister Muriel Strieter of Lafayette, CA and 3 brothers, Phillip of FL, Roger of WA and Kenneth of MN.

Donations may be made to Fremont-Rideout Foundation in Yuba City or Shriner's Hospital for Children in Sacramento. The family also suggests the .

Services will be November 29, 2104 at 1:00 pm at Ullrey Memorial Chapel. A reception will follow at Ruthy's in Yuba City. Please call 530-673-9741 if you plan on attending.

He was preceded in death by his ex-wife Virginia and one brother Robert Hansen of Des Moines, Iowa.
