Elizabeth Ann (Phillips) Berry Obituary

Elizabeth "Liz" Berry was born on March 24, 1934 in Meridian, California, and passed into heaven, at 81, on January 7, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Liz had a kind and generous soul and will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Everett Berry, her daughter Bridget Rutledge (Stan) her son Scott Berry (Gina); seven grandchildren Josh, Jordan, Madelynn, Megan, Chase, Austin, Madison and one great-grandson, Maverick.

Liz's career as an educator spanned over 41 years. After teaching elementary school for several years, Liz became a Miller Unruh Reading Specialist. Then, to further her education, she earned a Master's Degree in Reading from Sacramento State College. She taught in Rio Linda, Eureka Union and San Juan School Districts in the Sacramento area and then in Yuba City Unified School District when she moved there in 1971. She moved to Yuba City with her family to care for her aging mother Jolene who was living in Meridian. Liz became a Special Education Teacher and touched the lives of many children in the community. She really loved teaching.

Liz had many, many friends. She was always ready to help a family member, friend and colleague.

Liz was predeceased by her brothers Glenn Gordon Phillips II and Gary Phillips.

A gathering celebrating her life will be held Friday, January 15, 2016, at 1:00 pm at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 1390 Franklin Road in Yuba City. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grand Island Cemetery, P.O. Box 334, Grimes, CA 95950.
