Ellen Ilene Churchill Obituary

Ellen Ilene Churchill of Yuba City, passed away September 25, 2017 at the age of 85 years.

Ellen was born May 30, 1932 on the Stanton Ranch north of Live Oak to Chester and Zoella Dunn, and lived in the Yuba Sutter area all her life. She attended Live Oak schools and was high school valedictorian of the class of 1950. In high school she was a member of the California Scholarship Federation, and was the founder of the first Live Oak Fall Festival in her Junior year.

A hard worker all her life, Ellen took her first job at 13 years old for Wilson's Hardware Store in Live Oak. Over the years other jobs included clerical work, seasonal agricultural jobs, a position at Mr. Paul's Store in Tierra Buena, and retail work at Hendrick's Stationery Store. Following coursework at Heald College, Ellen worked seven years as a medical transcriptionist at Rideout Hospital.

She always considered her first and most important position to be "homemaker," and was continuously supportive of Keith, her husband of 67 years. Together, in a comfortable and loving home, they raised two sons whom she adored. Ellen was delighted as her family grew with daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was especially kind to animals, and over the years Ellen pampered at least a dozen family pets, many of them strays.

Ellen was a member of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, and served as a Deacon there. She also enjoyed being a Cub Scout Den Mother for six years.

She will be remembered for her loving care toward family and friends, her gentleness, and her sense of humor.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Keith; sons Ron (Leslie) and Robin (Rebecca); grandchildren Carolee (Justin), Kathleen, Matthew, Adam, Daniel and Emily; great-grandchildren Lucille and Wyatt; brother Cliff; two nephews and four nieces.

A family graveside service will be held at the Live Oak Cemetery on Friday, September 29, 2017. All are invited to a celebration of Ellen's life on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church in Yuba City.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church Deacon's Fund or are appreciated.
