Emil George Shubat Obituary

Emil George Shubat, former Sutter County Assessor, age 92, died November 14, 2015, with congested heart failure, with his family by his side. He was born in Iron River, Michagan September 26, 1923. He moved to Santa Barbara after graduating with a Bachelors degree, major in accounting and licensed in Public Accounting. In Decmber of 1942, he enlisted into the US Marine Corp. In 1950, he enlisted in the US Air Force as a 1st Lt. as an auditor. He survived three wars during his military career.

In September of 1951, he met and married Wanda Carter at Patton State Hospital where he was auditing with her father. They were married in Florence, AZ.

He is survived by his wife Wanda; children Kenneth Shubat (Helga) of Live Oak, Larry Shubat (Vickie) of Akron, Ohio, Allen Shubat (Mary Beth) of San Diego, Nadine Keller (Louis) of Live Oak, Lorene Conant (Mat) of Rio Oso and amongst them there are 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Emil and Wanda purchased a walnut ranch in Live Oak in 1964. Emil retired as a Major from Beale AFB in 1967 after serving 21 years in the military.

His favorite hobbies were cooking, eating out, camping, traveling, Alaska cruises, gambling, spending time with wife and family. He also enjoyed farming his walnuts and raising a vegetable garden. He loved to socialize and talk politics.

In 1969, he was employed with Sutter County. From 1986 to 1994 he became the Sutter County Assessor for eight years. He retired from Sutter County in 1994.

Emil was active in the Live Oak Lions club in 1955. He has been awarded the International Presidential Award to the Lions Club International. Other involvements were Treasurer for the District 4C-1 Lions Club, Twin Cities Lions Club, Yuba City Peach Bowl, Director of Yuba Sutter Farm Bureau, member of Yuba Sutter Chamber of Commerce, past Director and President of Peach Bowl Credit Union, past Director of National Society of Auditor Appraiser, past member Society of California Accountants, Bright Futures, Live Oak Unified School Site Board Committee, Live Oak Chamber of Commerce with Lifetime achievements award, Live Oak Cemetery Memorial for Vets.

Viewing will be Monday, November 23, 2015 at Chapel of the Twin Cities from 4-8 pm and a Rosary at 6:00 pm.

Graveside Services will be Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the Live Oak Cemetery at 11:00 am. Reception to be announced at the Rosary & Cemetery.
